RAAM expenses are many and the prize money is scant. But ultra marathon cyclists don’t race for the money; money alone cannot drive a person to such extremes. They incur their debt to test human capability. They prove that any accomplishment, matter how record-setting, can be improved upon.

Preparation begins months, often years, before the starter’s pistol fires. It will take a synchronized team of 12 crewmembers to ensure the fastest, safest, and most comfortable ride for George and Terri, our two riders. Team VeloWEAR/Co-Motion aims to win the race in as close to seven days as possible, but we wouldn’t even get to tomorrow’s planning if it were not for our sponsors.

Just a small sample of what goes into this mission would be:
— motel rooms, which we leave after a quick shower a moment to tie our shoes.
— food and coffee, so that we can keep our eyes on the road.
— gas, because we have only a few bikes, but we have fourteen people.
— too many incidentals to name or foresee.
