RAO 4-Day Camp
RAO 4-Day Training Camp: May 14 – 18, 2008
Times: Riders will meet at the Portland Airport Holiday Inn. Rider packets and route information will be given out at this time. Shuttle service from PDX is available from the start hotel. Expect to start no later than 7:00am. Slower riders will want to start as early as possible. Expect to finish Sunday afternoon at Timberline Lodge (weather permitting). Riders will be driven back to the start hotel.
What: We will be riding all of the 538 mile RAO course in four back to back 100+mile days. This is a great option for both solo and relay riders. The camp is timed to work as a tune-up for RAO. Do not use this ride as your weekend to get in shape. Your entry fee covers 4 nights double occupancy sleep accommodations (let me know if you have roommate preferences) sag support, breakfast & lunch. Dinner will be on your own in the evening. Space is extremely limited. Entries will close at 16 participants. Vehicles may be left at the Holiday Inn for the weekend. Please contact us with your travel plans.
What to bring: You must be able to fit all of your gear in one bag. Bring tools that you normally carry on your training rides: spare tubes, pump, water bottles, etc. We’ll have a tool box, lube, and extra tubes in the van but not much else as we will be carrying your gear, snacks and lunch. Be prepared for cold weather and rain as well as hot and dry. Your bike must be in top working condition when you arrive.
What to expect: This is our eighth year hosting RAO training camps. Our goal is to provide you with the opportunity for great training and first hand experience on the race route. The crew is there to help you as much as possible while doing our best to stay out of your way. We have patterned the camp after PAC Tour and PCT. George has used those tours three times as prep rides and has experienced some of the best results of his ultra career. We are hoping this will do the same for you. Some of the top divisional finishes in RAO have been posted by training campers. You will receive daily route sheets. Your motel rooms will be ready and waiting for you at the end of each day. Sag support will be available at regular intervals.
