20:27 Monday
George and I are slowly getting it together over here in Hood River. First we want to say how much fun we had this weekend. What an amazing group of racers, crew, supporters and officials. We had an unbelievable race this year – we feel honored to have been a part of it.
First, I’d like to thank our gracious and generous sponsors: Detours Sports – encouraging riders of all types to Decide 2 Ride – and to be part of the global solution! I’d also like to personally thank Guntram Jordan and Sam Bailey, the brains, brawn, heart and soul of Detours for coming out to the finish line. They are unflagging supporters of all Race Across Oregon events and we are grateful.
Hammer Nutrition supplying RAO and all of our sister events with the most amazing supplements, prizes, goodie bags and support. I’d like to give a special shout out to Steve Born – he’s our guy on the inside and a special friend to both George and myself.
Voler – the gang at Voler has provided killer support for many RAO events over the years – again – just another star in the RAO universe. Simply put, we couldn’t do it without our friends at Voler, especially Bill and Elaine.
Co-Motion Cycles Without Dwan and Dan at Co-Motion we wouldn’t have a grand prize for our NW Cup – a handbuilt frameset! Wow. It makes racing your bike worth it! This is some ride!!

We would also like to thank our officials on the course this year. Joanne Helinger manned two time stations and still had the chance to look so lovely at our awards banquet this morning! Dr. John Caton and his lovely wife Lena – who both provided amazing support at the registration and inspection on Friday, but who rendered aid to spent racers on the route, took hundreds of amazing pictures AND proved to be very entertaining at the finish line on Sunday! Thanks for helping us out this year! A huge special thanks to Rick Martin – a blast from RAO past. It was so special and wonderful to see him out there this weekend. His support of the event and the racers was unwavering. Please don’t stay away so long Rick!
Adrienne Johnson deserves a shout out for helping with inspections. And for bringing that adorable baby out for everyone to hold, cuddle and squeeze!
I’d also like to thank all of the staff at the Best Western River Inn. They were really helpful to George and myself – especially this morning at the awards banquet. Amber and William, this one’s for you!
