March 13, 2009 – Forecast is MUCH improved for race weekend. Partly cloudy and cool. Guess it took an RAO event to break the 18 month drought.

March 13, 2009 – Registration is set up inside Soler’s Tri Sport! Light rain falling – kind of like summer at the Oregon Coast…

From Race Headquarters:

11:20 PM Oregon time – hey guys, I am trying to stay awake to post the next racers into TS 5 but I am failing…..can they please just ride a little faster!

6:00 PM Oregon time – again, only positive words from George. He mentioned that Sharon was planning on taking a sleep break – which he heard from her crew – I hope she doesn’t until she absolutely MUST. This is such a short race – I think she can finish without extra time off the bike.

George has also mentioned that Goggins is off the bike often, and has even been doing repairs on his own bike. Something he’ll have to let go of during RAAM this summer!!

I think John Schlitter is having a pretty amazing race – and I hope that it keeps going well for him. George says that “he is flying!” Pavement is dry, no wind, and the section that he is on right now is long gradual rollers and flats – perfect terrain for 30miles/hour plus. The only thing that might slow down the Floridian is the temperature – about 47 degrees.

Mark Metcalfe – George says that he is riding really well, he has closed to 11 minutes at TS 4 – I hear that he needs 100 miles to warmup – so that must be the case.

I haven’t heard much about Caton – think he was having some sort of issue but I don’t have any confirmation.

Vicki has passed through time station 3 – and is in good spirits and continues to ride well.

Kent Polk – the rookie is going through some growing pains – but looks strong and I am sure we’ll see him at the finish line.

THe Tandem is in fine spirits – always smiling and glad to be out of the hills.

Just after TS #2 Things seem be be progressing well – I’ve been on the phone with George a number of times this morning and he reports that the weather is improving – around 45-50 degrees, not raining, high overcast. Last we spoke John Caton had pulled ahead of John Schlitter.

12:00 PM Oregon time: I’ve found that my computer isn’t great at getting all of the twitter updates, so I’ve been hitting F5 a lot – I’d love some feedback about the tweets during this race so we can see how it’s working for everyone – I’d like to add it to RAO this year (all 5 miles that have cell coverage!)

Hey George, I just want to make sure you correct my finish time from 26:53 to 28:53. I WISH it was 26:53! Thanks! From Sharon Stevens
