The views from Timberline

When I make my evening rounds of Timberline Lodge I always take a moment to look at the view from the Raven’s Nest (a room you absolutely have to see after you finish). The sunset over Mt. Jefferson and the Three Sisters is beautiful. It’s also fascinating to peer out over the Day Lodge after dark. I was up there this evening looking at the glittering lights of Madras and trying to identify the towns far off in the distance. I look out there and think of the upcoming training camps and race. I have so many memories of this area from training with Terri to some of the greatest racing I’ve ever seen. Driving Timberline Road every day is a constant reminder of Patty Jo Struve’s surreal ride in knee deep fog on a crystal clear night, Enrico DeAngeli’s charge to the finish, a glazed but determined Paul Biron rounding the hard right at the base and many, many more. I look at every curve and think where the best exchange points are located – they’ll be on the blog in the very near future. Thanks to all of you who have taken part in Race Across Oregon and to those of you who are about to.
