The New Finish Line

Is totally amazing. I was worried about no longer finishing up at Timberline. That last climb was so epic – and the view of the mountain so beautiful. And Timberline Lodge is a cool building. BUT…and it’s a big ole but – the new finish at Cooper Spur Resort is amazing.

It’s got all of the things that Timberline didn’t have in July – it’s quiet, there isn’t any traffic, there are no snotty obtuse snowboarders waiting in line to get on their bus to go down to Government Camp.

The finish this year will start at the corner of HWY 35 and Cooper Spur road, you’ll turn left and start a wonderful climb up to the Cooper Spur Lodge – then another left turn up Cloud Cap road – which is a narrow old Forest Service road – from there we will go in the out door by taking the first road to the left – the exit to the Cooper Spur Resort. George, Amelia and I walked it last night -probably about a 1/2 mile in length – totally quiet, wooded. Deers were walking around, flowers. It’s so quiet and wonderful.

George and I have always felt that the finish of an ultra event needs to be special and awe inspiring – and that traffic and lots of people are tough to deal with when you’ve been on the bike for 30+ hours. I think we’ve found an awesome spot to finish this journey.
