Salami Point Update!
Sunday July 16, 2006 by George
Two teams have currently logged Salami Points –
The Grand PAC Masters – Stauffer and Meyer approached us about racing as a two person relay AT THE ‘05 POST RACE BANQUET! I’d just been informed by one of their crew members that, in it’s own way, RAO was more difficult than RAAM yet here are these athletes talking about going after a 70+ two person record.
Team Bacchetta – At the ‘05 Interbike I had the pleasure of spending some time with Captain Robert Johnson – the crew chief of RAO Speedwagon. We walked over to the Bacchetta booth to meet John Schlitter (Bacchetta co-founder) and Rich Pinto (Bacchetta engineer and team manager). Robert was educating me about recumbents and we were wondering if Bacchetta (if they decided to race RAO) would have a problem going head to head with Speedwagon (which includes a covered recumbent and an hpv ). I met Schlitter and as we were talking about RAO the subject of racing against the uprights came up. Schlitter looked Johnson in the eye and said ‘I don’t care about beating the uprights…I just want to beat you.’ Mega salami points.
