Riding Outside
Wednesday February 27, 2008 by Terri Gooch
Here in Hood River we’ve been incredibly lucky with a multi-day stretch of amazing weather. I’ve ridden outside about 7 or 8 times in the last 12 days. It has been awesome – there have been so many changes to where I live since I was really out on the bike. There are a bunch of new houses being built, trees have been cut down, and, believe it or not, people are still drinking while driving and throwing their empties out on the side of the road.
But the thing that I really missed was just seeing the world at the speed of bike. Last Saturday I rode from The Dalles back toward Hood River – as I came up on a little wetlands area I was struck by the unreal sound of thousands of spring frogs croaking – they’re called Peepers where I come from – they were so loud I stopped the bike and actually called George, who was out running with Amelia – he could hear them through the phone. Then I looked up and saw a Bald Eagle. Wow. I really missed this.
