RAO Field

Looks like the racer audio blogs will happen. As I wrote earlier we’ll be testing this out during the training camp as far as cell phone accessibility. This will provide a fun record for all to listen to.
Timberline Lodge will be offering race rates this year. They’re giving us a generous discount which is currently in the works. Be sure to make your reservations early as rooms go fast. The discount should be available starting next week.
What a field we have! This is the largest number of entrants RAO has ever fielded this early in the season. We’re very excited about the ‘bents competing this year. Chris Sandmel who, at age 18 was the youngest RAO finisher ever will be going for another RAO first as he attempts to finish solo on a recumbent. Team OHPV includes some of the fastest racers in the northwest. Judging from the performance of Team ALS/Lightning at RAAM last year Team OHPV will be one to watch out for. Gerry’s Kids are back for the third consecutive year. The experience they’ve gained make them a favorite in the 4 person open relay division. They held pace with Team Shark Attack for 538 miles last year and will be tough to beat. Team Grey Panters is out to become the first women’s team to complete the circular course. The team of 50 – 60 year young athletes will be exciting to watch. This is also the first year we’ll have 2 person mixed teams competing. The Candy Ass Llamas bring a mixture of humor and competitveness to the field – check out their wonderful blog. Team Escargot – one of my favorite names of all time – ride much faster than their moniker suggests. The solo men’s roster features some of the strongest riders in the sport – bringing together a number of RAO vets and some rookies who are rookies in name only. This has the potential to be as closely fought as last year if not more so.
Race numbers will be assigned beginning tomorrow.
