Race Across Oregon expanding in 2012!
Friday August 12, 2011 by Terri Gooch
Just spent three days scouting (well actually planning as there are so few turns on the course) two 2012 events that will take place on the beautiful Natchez Trace Parkway! With the incredible support of former RAAM time station Kosciusko, Mississippi we will conduct both a Spring training camp and Fall non-competitive multi-day ride. The Trace is by far one of the nicest roads I’ve had the pleasure to ride in America. It is our goal to work with Kosciusko to make it the focal point of our southern expansion.
We also have a new fall race in the works which will take place in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. We’re looking at routes that will include Portland, Salem, Corvallis and Eugene along with the Coastal Mountains to add some typical RAO-like vertical. Yes, we know there’s a chance it could be a wet one, but with the leaves turning and what should be nice temperatures we are going for it.

Hi Terri, there are a couple of loops out of eugene one south toward cottage grove and the old mines, that includes a climb of huckleberry mountain-used once in the tour of willamette, 11-12%, and also Wolf Creek which was a staple of the tour of w. This would be about 180 miles with 8-9000 ft. the other loop toward Alsea includes a very remote area of the coastal range called lobster valley. This loop is 175 miles with 6-7000 ft. What kind of mileage are you looking for. The problem with lane county is permits. They can be hard to get. 95% of the roads would be low traffic.
