Next year's RAO

So I knew all it would take to get more input on next year’s date was to post the first weekend of June! Here’s the deal: RAAM is moving to the second weekend of June which virtually eliminates anyone riding or crewing RAAM from our field – a drag. My first choice for a new date was six weeks later – mid July…just in time for STP. So far you have been pretty adamant about keeping the first weekend of June (some SIX teams already!!) but now we’re getting a lot of people asking for mid-July. Positives about a move include distancing our date from RAAM, more training time, much warmer weather, no more conflict with the Mt. Hood Stage Race and pretty much a guarantee of always going to Timberline. Negatives include chance of fires, proximity to RAMROD, STP and Cascade Classic, later in the season, not as green and consistency of date. We’ll have a final decision within the next couple of weeks. We’re also looking at a revised version of the current route which will remove some of the climbing, a number of miles (though total distance will still be more than 500 miles) and almost all of the traffic. We are already extremely excited about next year’s race!
