Meet the racers:
Wednesday May 4, 2005 by George
Wade Baker, Atascadero, CA – I met Wade for the first time as he flew past me on Mule Pass during the 2004 PAC Tour Desert Training Camp. I met him for the second time after he pulled a u-turn at the top, descended and then re-passed me. I met him the third time…well you get the sad picture…of course I ride uphill like a salted slug so maybe this is a poor gauge of Wade’s climbing prowess. However, he happily reminded me of this humiliating experience when he sent his RAO entry. Revenge is sweet Mr. Baker – expect plenty of headhunter primes for any solo racer able to pass you on Monument, Keyes Creek, Ochoco and Timberline. Baker qualified for RAAM last year in his first ultra. He is an excellent rider, superb climber and, despite his ill treatment of the less talented, a very nice guy. I look for an outstanding performance from him on our mountainous course.
