January 31, 2008

Well the first month of my New Year’s Resolution is drawing to a close. I did miss one day of exercise. I also had a few lackluster workouts and I did miss almost two weeks at the gym, but HEY, I did get to the gym today, and I’ve upped my time on the trainer to 30 minutes. WhooHoo!

If you hadn’t heard, I will be one of the coaches at the PAC Tour Women’s Camp this spring in Sierra Vista, AZ. I am actually worried that I won’t have anyone to ride with, as all of the other women will be zooming past me, flying up hills and basically kicking my a*#. Nothing like the prospect of complete humiliation to get me on the bike. I was hoping to pull Amelia in a bike trailer, but if I don’t get a bit more fit, I don’t think I’ll be able to get out of the driveway. Good thing George is coming along!

Speaking of Amelia, last night, when we were awake together at 3AM I was composing all sorts of blog entries – most were at least as self deprecating as this one – but they seemed funnier some how. Maybe that’s what 3AM is all about. I was thinking that having a baby is like crewing an ultra race, expect they don’t get to the finish line for a really long time. And so far, I haven’t had to change any diapers for an ultra racers. Although I have heard stories about the application of chamois butter….

I’ve been receiving a few emails about an piece on RAO in the recent edition of Bicycling Magazine – yeah, Bicycling – the one sold on news stands and with paid subscriptions. I haven’t seen it yet, but can’t wait to get my mitts on it – I am actually pretty excited that an ultra race would even be mentioned in a magazine like that! Thanks to everyone for letting me know.

I’ve been getting a lot of great emails from RAO’ers and phone calls too – it’s great to hear everyone’s plans, goals and paths for 2008. Thanks to all of you for sharing. And I am really excited to know that we are going to be seeing many of you at one of our events this year. I can’t wait.
