Bad JuJu

Yesterday was a beautiful in my little part of Oregon – it may have even been nice in all of Oregon – but I didn’t stray too far from home, so I can’t say. I couldn’t believe it when I woke up – the sky was actually clear. And blue. Sometimes the forecast mentions that we are going to have clear weather, but I never believe it.

Around 11:00 I took Amelia into town, thinking that I would do an hour hike instead of 20 minutes on the trainer inside. Maybe a little bit of vitamin D could slow down my annual case of Oregon Rickets. So we parked up at the trail head and set out on our way.

It was a wonderful hike – lots of birds chattering everywhere. Great glimpses of the Columbia through the trees. And no rain or snow!! Everyone on the trail was really happy too – saying hello and nodding.

When I got back to the parking lot I had a nasty surprise. Someone had broken my car window and stolen my purse. I had ‘hidden’ it under a bunch of clothes, but it didn’t fool this thief. Whomever it was also broke into another car with a child seat. The police officer mentioned that often child seats mean Mothers, which means purses…..I figured it meant Mothers, which meant harried creatures without enough pockets for all of the stuff you need to carry for a 60 minute hike, like diapers, wet wipes, cherrios, teething biscuits, extra hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, bottles, and a cell phone. I had the good sense to still have my debit card on me. I had the bad, maybe even terrible sense to leave my check book, the RAO checkbook, RAO debit card, all credit cards, cash, bills, drivers license, medical card, etc, etc ad nauseum in the car. Yep. I. AM. THAT. STUPID.

When I got home I spent most of the rest of the day closing bank accounts, reporting stolen credit cards and putting a fraud alert on myself. Today I spent most of the day trying to get a new social security card, since I can’t find my old one (was it in my purse? eeek, I hope I’m not – that’s even worse than stupid!) But you can’t do anything without a drivers license, and you can’t get a drivers license with out a SS card. And you can’t get a SS card without a drivers license…..yes, you might have just gotten a glimpse of my day today.

The weather forecast for Hood River today was supposed to be clear and beautiful – I was thinking about that while the guys were putting in the new glass in my car door in a torrential downpour with high gusting wind. But I did get on the trainer tonight for 20 mintues. It was a lot cheaper than the hike.
